After shifting through the remaining free agent pool looking for wide receivers to help the depleted offense, the Miami Dolphins finally made a move. The team let go of Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Mike Wallace and Charles Clay at the start of the offseason and only replaced them with Kenny Stills and Jordan Cameron. While considering making a move for a receiver in the NFL Draft, the Dolphins signed depth in Greg Jennings.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have signed Jennings to a two-year contract in order to help with needed depth on the offense. Jennings visited the team earlier in the offseason, but left South Beach without a contract. He then took visits with the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints before heading back to Dolphins where he will not be the No. 1 receiver, but will be a quality veteran for the rotation.

Jennings comes to the Dolphins after two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He struggled in Minnesota as quarterback consistency was an issue. He put up 1,546 yards and 10 touchdowns during his tenure there. The Dolphins will use Jennings as either their No. 3 or a rotational player replacing Wallace.

The contract to Jennings likely does not take away the interest in acquiring a top wide receiver in the NFL Draft. According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have their eyes on several options and could explore trade options to move up in order to get someone like Amari Cooper or Kevin White. The Dolphins would have to trade up to at least the No. 4 pick in the draft which could cost them. If the Dolphins opt to remain at their current spot, the team could target players like DeVante Parker or Phillip Dorsett instead.

The contract terms for Jennings have not been released, but the wide receiver is not expected to have inked a lot of money. The Dolphins are preparing to negotiate a new contract for Ryan Tannehill this offseason, but need to be smart about the terms considering the lack of available cap space. After giving Ndamukong Suh a very large deal, the Dolphins might not be able to make a contract for Tannehill work if the numbers are not exact.
