Brooklyn Nets Rumors 2012: Josh Childress On Team's Radar?

Sep 10, 2012 02:40 PM EDT

Reports have been released of the Brooklyn Nets interested in small forward Josh Childress. The two sides have agreed to a workout where Childress will meet with general manager Billy King and coach Avery Johnson.

Childress was released by the Phoenix Suns under the amnesty clause as they were looking for cap relief. Last season with the Suns, Childress averaged 2.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in the 34 games he played.

His role with the Nets would be exclusively off the bench as the Nets possess one of the most potent starting five combos in the NBA.

If the Nets sign Childress, he will complete their roster as they currently have 13 players signed to guaranteed contracts. They would offer Childress a one-year/non-guaranteed deal, like they did with center Andray Blatche.

Childress is a six-year veteran that was drafted sixth overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

His best season came in 2006-2007 when he averaged 13 points a game and was once again relegated to a bench role as he only started 13 out of the 55 games he played in that season.

Childress missed the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons, until the Suns picked him up in a trade in 2010.

He has averaged 9.5 points, 4.9 rebounds per game in his career, but those days might be in the past.
