The Atlanta Braves are starting to look like the rebuilding team everyone thought they would be while the New York Mets appear to be in mid-season form. After a nice start to the season, the Braves have dropped off the map while the Mets are putting together one of their best starts in franchise history as they aim to win 11 straight facing off against Atlanta on Thursday.
The Mets last won 11 games in a row in 1990 and have the chance to reach that once again on Thursday. The team is putting it all together at the moment. On Wednesday they got their 10th win after Lucas Duda hit a go-ahead single in the eighth innings to give the Mets the 3-2 win over the Braves on Wednesday. They are hoping to keep the success going as Bartolo Colon takes the mound with a 3-0 record and 2.25 ERA on the year. Colon is trying to keep the win streak alive while becoming the first pitcher in the league to get four wins on the year. In Colon's last start he gave up just one run over seven innings.
The Braves managed to get three runs over seven innings in their last time facing Colon. Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons are 6 for 13 over the past two years against the pitcher. Jonny Gomes is 8 for 21 against him. Atlanta is struggling all around, but production at the plate has been an issue in the past two games against New York. They have totals three runs in the past two days while AJ Pierzynski has found the most success, going 3 for 3 with a double on Wednesday.
Atlanta will put the ball in Julio Teheran's hands as he is 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA on the season. He needs to bounce back after his last start where he gave up five runs and seven hits against the Toronto Blue Jays. His last time playing the Mets, Teheran gave up just one run and two hits over six innings. The Braves are hoping to avoid a three straight sweep at Citi Field.
