Chelsea are considering a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku going to Everton for the services of Marouane Fellaini.
Speculation about the future of the Everton midfielder has been rife after comments attributed to Fellaini were published, where he said he could possibly leave Goodison Park at the end of the season, or even as soon as the January transfer window. While Fellaini quickly moved to play down the exit rumors, saying he is happy to stick with the Toffees, reports linking the midfielder with a move away have not stopped.
Now, Twitter is not exactly the place to find believable potent rumors, but according to several reports, Fellaini is seriously being considered by Roberto Di Matteo as a possible option in the summer. Lukaku has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, owing to the burly striker being sent to West Bromwich Albion on loan for the entire season.
While the potential to become a good striker still exists in the Belgian international, reports suggest Di Matteo and indeed Roman Abramovich will jump at the chance of sealing a deal for Fellaini, who has been repeatedly linked with a move to Chelsea in the past, if Everton are ready to listen to offers involving Lukaku.
Chelsea will have to pay a considerable fee along with sending Lukaku to Everton, unless of course if the striker has a stellar campaign at West Brom, scoring over 20 goals, which he is capable of.
The rumors are highly unsubstantiated and the likelihood of such a move is pretty low. But it will be something interesting for Chelsea as well as Everton fans to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
Meanwhile, Petr Cech has been told he will need to undergo surgery at the end of the season to correct an elbow problem. Chelsea found the injury recently, after Cech suffered from some pain in his elbow. While the problem is not serious, Chelsea have requested Czech Republic coach Michal Bilek to rest the goalkeeper in friendly matches.
"An investigation showed a bit of ossification in his elbow, so they (Chelsea) are planning a surgery in England after the season," Czech Republic team doctor Krejci told the Czech news agency CTK.
"They have asked us if we could rest him in friendly fixtures. We have come to an agreement with coach Michal Bilek and decided to be on good terms with Chelsea. We are going to grant their wish and rest him.
"Petr cannot stretch the arm properly. If he has to stretch the elbow, it hurts him sometimes. There is nothing to be worried about, though. There is basically nothing that could make this problem worse.
"The only thing that could force an immediate surgery is if the intensity of pain would get much higher or if the elbow was blocked in some way."
