The New York Yankees and New York Mets are both finding earlier season success which is giving the Subway Series much more life than it saw last season. The Mets entered Friday on an 11-game win streak, but the Yankees robbed them of the chance to get a team-record win streak while winning four in a row and seven of their last eight. Now the Mets will put ace Matt Harvey on the mound to bounce back.
The Yankees stole the New York spotlight from the Mets, getting a 6-1 win thanks to home runs from Mark Teixeira and solid pitching from Michel Pineda who allowed just one run in seven innings. Now, the Yankees will hand the ball to CC Sabathia who is still searching for his first win of the season. He is 0-3 with a 4.35 ERA this year. He has not lost four straight since 2008. He did well in his last time out, going eight innings and giving up just two runs. Against the Mets, Sabathia is 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA in five career starts.
The Yankees are also getting improved play from Teixeira who is healthy right now. He has four home runs in his last give games while tied for the lead in the league with 24. He is batting .353 with three home runs and six RBIs against the Mets while being on a five-game hit streak.
The Mets will let Harvey take the mound as he is 3-0 with a 3.50 ERA on the year. In his first career start against the Yankees he pitch eight innings and recorded 10 strikeouts. This season he has gone at least six innings in each of his starts. However, he has allowed seven runs over his past two starts and giving up four and eight hits against the Miami Marlins. Harvey is dealing with a sprained ankle which could impact his performance against the Yankees who are looking to go up 2-0 on the Mets in their first series of the season.
