Seattle Seahawks Rumors and Draft News: Russell Wilson Extension Fully Guaranteed? Bruce Irvin Trade Option With TJ Yeldon Target?

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson are working on a contract extension this offseason and GM John Schneider is hoping to get a deal done before the season starts and this comes after Wilson made some comments about his potential baseball career and as the team is considering picking up Bruce Irvin's fifth year contract option ahead of the NFL draft.

Wilson has been extremely successful in his first three seasons in the NFL and that is why he is likely to be one of the highest paid players in the league on his new deal. Wilson has had low cap hits in the first three seasons of his deal and he does not have a fifth year option because he was a third round pick. According to Pro Football Talk, the Seahawks may look at making part of Wilson's deal guaranteed to help with the cap hits, as they have had six figure hits the past two years.

Wilson is coming into the final year of his contract and he will make over $1 million after making $662,434 in base salary last season. Wilson has already won a Super Bowl and has taken his team to another and that is why the Seahawks are looking to pay him big money. Schneider said to the media that the team will be "careful" about the contract extension and that they want the QB "for a long time" in Seattle.

Wilson made some comments in an interview about his baseball career and he said it has been a dream of his to play in the majors. Schneider did not comment later on when asked about the comments Wilson made about baseball and said that it's not "something I'd get into right now," although it could come up in negotiations.

According to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport, the team is considering making a large chunk of Wilson's deal guaranteed, as that would keep the cap hits manage, even if he is paid like the top quarterbacks in the league. Wilson doesn't put up numbers like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but he showed that he is just as valuable and now he is set to get paid what he is worth. The team has Jimmy Graham and his contract and gave Marshawn Lynch a new deal and now it's time for the QB to get taken care of

Schneider spoke with the media last week and said that the team had not yet decided on the fifth year option for Irvin. The linebacker has become a strong piece of the Seahawks defense and with Malcolm Smith gone the team may consider picking it up after the draft. This year the team doesn't have a first round pick after trading for Graham and they have some options in the later rounds. The draft class is deep and Terry Blount at ESPN reports names like Chris Conley, Breshad Perriman and TJ Yeldon could be potential targets.
