Buffalo Bills Rumors: Mike Glennon Trade, Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson, Brett Hundley Draft Options Over EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel?

The Buffalo Bills may look at a Mike Glennon trade this offseason to help improve the quarterback situation and the team could target names like Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson, Brett Hundley or Shane Carden to add some competition to EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel for new head coach Rex Ryan as the draft gets closer.

According to ESPN.com, Glennon could be on the trade block if the Buccaneers take Jameis Winston and the Bills could be an option to pick him up. The Bills reportedly will look at QBs in the draft, as GM Doug Whaley said to the media that there is a deep class behind Winston and Marcus Mariota. The Browns are also interested in a QB and could look at Petty or Hundley as options. The Bills have worked out some players and while they like Cassel as the starter for now, there is a good chance they will try and upgrade as the offseason moves along.

According to Pro Football Talk, Whaley spoke about drafting a quarterback this year and he said that there could be some quality names in the second and third rounds. PFT writes that the team is "not trading up" for anyone after trading up for Sammy Watkins last year, which leaves names like Petty, Garrett Grayson and Hundley as targets.

The Bills drafted Manuel a couple years ago, but he has not developed into the player they were hoping he would. There is still time, but right now he is not considered an option to start unless he improves greatly over the summer. Ryan has put his stamp on the team and he thinks they can make the playoffs. The Bills added LeSean McCoy and signed Percy Harvin while also trading for Matt Cassel, but they could look at other options at QB.

Glennon played in six games last season and had 1417 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. While those numbers are not amazing, he has shown over two seasons that he can be a competent starter with 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. That is a solid ratio when looking at young players and Glennon still has not yet had a full season starting in the NFL.

According to BuffaloBills.com, Ryan said that the team will have an "open competition" for the starting job and right now Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are in the mix. The team could add another quarterback to that, but Whaley likely would make that draft pick with eyes on 2016 and beyond for that player. Cassel is a bridge option at best and if Manuel isn't the guy that Doug Marrone thought he was, Whaley will need another backup option to try and make into a consistent starter.
