The NBA playoffs standings has the Atlanta Hawks leading the Brooklyn Nets 3-2 after winning Game 5 on Wednesday night by the score of 107-97, putting the team one victory away from advancing into the second round to take on the Washington Wizards.
The Hawks dominated the game early, but the Nets pulled within one point for a time in the fourth quarter, but Atlanta was able to put the team away. Atlanta led the game 33-16 after the first quarter, but the Nets came back in the second and got things closer in the second half before the Hawks pulled away. DeMarre Carroll was very good for the Hawks, scoring 24 points to lead Atlanta.
Al Horford had 20 points with 15 rebounds and five assists, while Jeff Teague added eight assists to lead the Hawks. Alan Anderson had 23 points, while former Hawks star Joe Johnson had nine rebounds in the loss for Brooklyn. The Hawks now have the chance to close out the series in Game 6 and that matchup will be in Brooklyn.
Teague dealt with a minor ankle injury during the game and while he had it taped in the locker room, he was fine after the game ended. The Nets came back in the second half after a strong showing by the Hawks and Brook Lopez contributed 15 points and three rebounds after having a big game in the last matchup.
