The New York Yankees find themselves in a tight American League East race. This time, however, they are not battling for a top spot against the Boston Red Sox, they need to win in order to keep pace with the red hot Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox and Yankees will meet at Fenway Park today at 7:05 p.m. ET.
The New York Yankees will send David Phelps who is 3-4 with a 3.55 ERA this season. Facing him for the Sox will be veteran Aaron Cook.
The Yankees have not been able to drive in runs with runners in scoring position, which has created this slump for them. At one point they held a 10-game lead in the AL East, but then they began slipping.
There are 21 games remaining in the 2012 season and Yankees need to better these issues if they want to compete in October. Last night leading, the Yankees gave up the winning run as Jacoby Ellsbury came up with the game-winning hit.
