The Miami Dolphins use their first round pick in the NFL draft on wide receiver DeVante Parker and they continued to add weapons on offense for quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the later rounds, bringing in running back Jay Ajayi and wideout Tony Lippett to join Greg Jennings, Jordan Cameron and Ndamukong Suh as offseason additions for the franchise.
Parker was selected with the 14th overall pick by the Dolphins and he was an expected target for the team in the first round. According to Pro Football Talk, Parker was one of the first players that Miami hosted for a visit in the pre-draft visit and they felt he was a good fit for their offensive system. The Dolphins picked up the fifth year option on Ryan Tannehill and they wanted to bring in more players to give him support on offense.
The team traded away Mike Wallace and released both Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson, making wide receiver a need heading into the draft. The team added Kenny Stills in a trade to join Jarvis Landry after his strong rookie season and now Parker, Lippett and Ajayi will join the offense. Parker should be a strong third option and slot player for the Dolphins, while Lippett could be a better option over Rishard Matthews.
The Dolphins have been an active team this offseason and the offense should be more explosive with the additions of Parker, Ajayi, Jennings and Jordan Cameron. Mike Wallace was not as good as the team expected him to be over the last two seasons and now the Dolphins are hoping this group of receivers can be more productive for Tannehill.
Parker had a solid season last year while playing in just seven games for the Louisville Cardinals, making 43 catches for 855 yards and five touchdowns. Parker had his best season in 2013 with 55 catches for 885 yards and 12 touchdowns and he finished his career with 33 touchdowns and over 2700 yards receiving. Parker has good size and speed for a receiver and he offers the Dolphins an explosive element to the offense.
