Time Warner cable released a statement saying that former Los Angeles Lakers forward James Worthy will join their team as a studio analyst.
Worthy has been a very vocal analyst of the Lakers when the team was in partnership with TWC before the switch to Time Warner.
Along with Worthy, Dave Miller will provide analyst duties, Chris McGee of Fox Sports West will be the studio anchor, and Mike Trudell will announce from the sidelines much as he did last season.
Worthy had this to say about his new position:
"As a life-long Laker, I understand how important the Los Angeles Lakers are to Southern California. I'm honored that I'll be able to speak directly to Lakers fans on Time Warner Cable SportsNet on a daily basis starting Oct. 1."
Worthy will be joining longtime color-commentator Stu Lantz and play-by-play announcer Bill MacDonald in providing in-depth coverage of Lakers games.
As a player Worthy, nicknamed "Big Game James", received the Most Outstanding Player Award from the 1982 NCAA Final Four and later an MVP Award from the 1988 NBA Finals.
Worthy was a member of a Laker team that won three NBA championships in 1985, 1987 and 1988.
His career postseason averages of 21.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game were higher than his regular -season averages of 17.6 points and 5.1 per contest.
After retiring in the 1994-95 NBA season, he took with him 16,320 career points and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
