NFL Trade Rumors: Marcus Mariota Forces Zach Mettenberger Deal? Jameis Winston Starter Over Mike Glennon as Robert Griffin III Hurts Kirk Cousins, Colt McCoy

Several teams made quarterback adjustments this offseason either by drafting a rookie or re-signing a veteran that could determine who gets to start in Week 1. With Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota officially in the league, they could push other roster members onto the trade block as offseason workouts kick off while contracts to players like Robert Girffin III might make his backups expendable if a deal is presented.

Last season the Tennessee Titans drafted Zach Mettenberger with the hopes that the LSU star would be their quarterback of the future. Mettenberger showed signs of promise in 2014, but did not get any noteworthy success that secured his position as the starter quarterback. As a result, the Titans drafted Mariota who is quickly gaining steam as the starter for the upcoming season.

According to the Tennessean, the Titans are not preparing to trade Mettenberger this offseason and deny the idea that the quarterback has requested a move following the drafting of Mariota. General manager Ruston Webster told the media that the quarterback is embracing the situation and is ready to compete for the job. Offensive tackle Taylor Lewan said that Mettenberger still views himself as the starter regardless.

"That is the mentality that Zach has," Lewan said, via The Tennessean. "He thinks of himself as a starter, and the guys in the locker room do also. I don't think he is going to give it up easily. Mariota, I don't know the guy and I am sure he is a great worker and from everything I hear about him he's a great guy. But Zach is not the kind of guy who in conflict is going to flee. He's going to fight it out."

Webster hinted that Mariota is starting Week 1 after telling the NFL Network that the Titans are already beginning to adapt the offense to the quarterback's skill set. The same can be said for Winston who is expected to start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Mike Glennon. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is reporting the Buccaneers are not actively searching for a trade of Glennon, but would not turn one down if it is presented. Tampa Bay could then simply sign a veteran for cheap.

The Washington Redskins have upped their commitment to Griffin after picking up his fifth-year option. They did not do the same with Kirk Cousins who could now be available for trading. Washington has Colt McCoy who has proven he can compete in this league. If Cousins were made available, there might be a lot of interest in the quarterback.
