Premier League Results: Arsenal, Manchester United Enjoy Big Wins; Chelsea and Manchester City Held

There were goals galore at the Emirates and Old Trafford with Arsenal beating Southampton 6-1 and Manchester United coasting past Wigan 4-0, as Chelsea and Manchester City were held by Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City respectively in an action-packed Super Saturday of the English Premier League.

Aston Villa got their first win of the season courtesy a 2-0 result over Swansea City, while Dimitar Berbatov's double helped Fulham to a 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Arsenal continued their good run, with a six-goal demolition of Southampton. Two goals from Gervinho, and one each from Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott, coupled with a couple of Kieran Gibbs-created own goals gave the Gunners a comfortable win. Arsenal, however, conceded their first goal of the season, through a mistake from returning goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

United overcame a missed penalty from Javier Hernandez, after Danny Welbeck had conned the referee with a dive inside the box, under Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi's challenge, to cruise to a win. Paul Scholes opened the scoring for the Old Trafford side, in his 700th appearance, six minutes into the second half.

Then two goals in three minutes -- first from Hernandez and then from debutante Alexander Buttner, off a brilliant solo run, put the game to bed. Nick Powell put the gloss, with a brilliantly taken goal late on.

At Loftus Road, as expected, Anton Ferdinand refused to shake both John Terry and Ashley Cole's hands in the pre-match handshake ritual, and the drama pretty much ended there. Both sides enjoyed a couple of good opportunities, and will rue not taking them, as the game petered out to a 0-0 stalemate.

At the Britannia, Javi Garcia scored his first goal for City on his debut, equalising for the Premier League champions after Peter Crouch had given the home side a rather fortuitous lead.

The best match to watch was at the Emirates, as Arsenal were at their imperious attacking best, while rarely being troubled on the defensive end. Jos Hooiveld put the ball into his own net, after Gibbs' cross came off the goalkeeper and ricocheted off the defender. Podolski then made it 2-0 with a stunning freekick from 25-yards. Mikel Arteta, who along with Santi Cazorla had another brilliant game, set up Gervinho for the Ivory Coast international to fire in a low strike and make it 3-0.

Nathaniel Clyne deflected the ball into his own net off another Gibbs cross, before Szczesny's fumble allowed Danny Fox to fire into an open net, as Arsenal went in at half-time 4-1 up.

The pace of the game went down considerably in the second half, before a moment of brilliance from Aaron Ramsey opened up the Southampton defense. Latching onto a nice pass from Cazorla, Ramsey flummoxed Clyne, before guiding in a shot past Kelvin Davies. The shot struck the base of the far post, and fell kindly for Gervinho to tap-in.

Theo Walcott rounded off the scoring, with a nice finish off his left-foot late in the game to add the icing to the cake.

Chelsea top the table with 10 points from four games, while United are second a point behind. Arsenal and City lie third and fourth respectively on eight points.
