Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez: Fight Time and Schedule as Canelo Also Fights Saturday Night

Sep 15, 2012 06:20 PM EDT

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will defend his title against the previous owner of the WBO Middleweight belt, Sergio Martinez. They are set to meet at a UNLV arena that sold out within a week of tickets going on sale.

For Martinez this is personal. For Chavez Jr. it will be a chance to prove he is not just the son of a legend, but a great fighter as well. With a win, Chavez Jr. could establish himself as one of the true great boxers of the generation.

Martinez is upset. He had the title belt stripped away from him and Chavez Jr. won the title as it was up for grabs in a fight against Sebastian Zbik. Martinez had some words as he expressed exactly what he felt.

"It is very simple. I cannot accept the fact he is world champion," Martinez said. "The only reason he is world champion is because he is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the son of the legend, and his mouth is so big -- even bigger than his own brain -- and he's talking too much."

Chavez Jr. enters the fight unbeaten with a 46-0-1 record and 32 knockouts. He is the No. 1 ranked Mexican boxer and he is only 26 years old.

Martinez presents himself as a veteran. Martinez, who hails from Argentina, is the No. 1 ranked Middleweight boxer, right ahead of Chavez Jr. Martinez is also the No. 1 boxer of his native country. His record is 49-2-2 with 28 knockouts.

You can watch the match at 9 p.m. ET on pay-per-view. They will be the main event as about four fights will precede their fight.
