Okay, now Bud Selig is making things too interesting with this new Wild Card format. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers are tied for the second spot of the Wild Card after their Saturday night matchup. The Dodgers defeated the Cardinals in dramatic fashion scoring two in the ninth to take the game 4-3 and pull up to a second place tie.
It all came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Andre Ethier got a base hit. Don Mattingly sent Dee Gordon to pinch-run. Gordon stole second and then scored on a Luis Cruz double, tying the game at three.
Cruz was replaced by Elian Herrera at second and Juan Rivera pinch-hit. Rivera hit the game winning shot into center, driving in Herrera for the victory.
The Philadelphia Phillies are just three games back in the Wild Card despite being more than dead in the NL East standings. They are just one game from being eliminated in the NL East, but have more than enough life in the Wild Card race.
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers won on Saturday, staying within striking distance of the second spot in the race.
