The Oakland Raiders are excited about adding Amari Cooper to the roster in the NFL draft and he now is the top wide receiver on the roster and this comes as Trent Richardson may start over Latavius Murray and Michael Dyer for Derek Carr, while Mychal Rivera now has some depth at tight end with Clive Walford coming in after getting drafted out of Miami.
The Raiders received high marks from most draft experts on their 2015 class and the main reason is the player at the top. Cooper comes in after a standout career at Alabama and now he adds a legitimate number one receiver for the offense, which is something the Raiders have been lacking. Carr is coming back after a solid rookie season and now he will have more weapons than last season with Cooper, Michael Crabtree, Trent Richardson, Clive Walford and Roy Helu coming in.
According to Bill Williamson at ESPN, Cooper made a strong impression over his first day of rookie minicamp and that could put him in line to be a starter this year. The team added Crabtree in the offseason and he is projected to be the number two starter on the depth chart for the Raiders. The team cut James Jones loose this offseason and now Cooper and Crabtree headline a unit with Andre Holmes, Rod Streater, Brice Butler and Kenbrell Thompkins
The Raiders have been putting together some strong draft classes over the past few years and now Cooper, Mario Edwards and Walford could be the top names in this group. Last year the team got a strong pick in Khalil Mack and now Reggie McKenzie hopes that Edwards cam combine with Mack to be a ferocious duo rushing the quarterback. Cooper comes in after putting up amazing numbers at Alabama and he should be one of the favorites to win rookie of the year this season.
Cooper had 124 catches last season for 1727 yards and 16 touchdowns and that slots him in as the top starting wideout for Carr at quarterback. The running back position has had some changeover for the Raiders and now the team has added Michael Dyer on a free agent deal after already bringing in Richardson and Helu this offseason. The Raiders let Darren McFadden leave in free agency and the team now feels comfortable having Richardson come in following two bad seasons with the Colts.
According to Richard Davenport of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Dyer was signed by the team after coming in for a tryout with Oakland. Dyer comes in after a tough run, as he was once one of the top running backs in college before dealing with off the field issues. While Dyer may not have a major role or even make the team after training camp, it's another solid option for the team to look at says Yahoo Sports reporter Charles Robinson.
Clive Walford should add some depth for the team as well, as he is a solid pass catching tight end that can play alongside Rivera. The team got rid of Nick Kasa and now Walford could step up into that backup role behind Rivera after he had a strong season last year.
