The NY Mets and Chicago Cubs are playing live on the MLB schedule on Tuesday for Game 2 of their four game set and the matchup from Wrigley Field starts at 8:05 pm ET and will be on the MLB Network as Noah Syndergaard makes his first start in his debut for New York and that adds some intrigue as he takes on Jake Arrieta in the pitching duel.
The Mets have been one of the surprise teams in baseball and the Cubs have played better than expected and now the teams matchup after the Cubs won the first game of the series. The Mets come in having lost two of the last four games and that came after a two game sweep against the Orioles at home and now the team comes in after winning two of three on the road against the Phillies.
The Mets are currently leading the NL East by two games over the Nationals and they would like to stay in position. Dillon Gee was placed on the DL and that pushed Syndergaard into the rotation and now he has the chance to get things going for the Mets, who have had Matt Harvey pitching well this season. Jacob DeGrom got beat in the first matchup and he gave up home runs back to back to Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo in the game.
Syndergaard comes in after playing very well at Las Vegas, putting up strong numbers over fife starts while going 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 29 2-3 innings and now he makes his debut in the majors. Syndergaard is part of a strong Mets farm system and now he gets the chance to show that he belongs. Kris Bryant is another young player in this game and he comes in after hitting his second career home run since getting his call up.
The Cubs come into the game at one over .500 and they are looking to win the first two games of the series after taking the matchup at Wrigley on Monday. The Field has some fans back in the bleachers after part of the second was opened up while the team is doing construction. Rizzo has hit five home runs in 10 games and he once again is off to a solid start this season.
Rizzo has had three homers, three doubles and seven RBIs over the last stretch of games and now he has the chance to keep it going against the Mets. Arrieta has pitched well against the Mets in the past and he had a 0.77 ERA in two starts against the team last season.
