While Miguel Cabrera has broken out of his slump with the Detroit Tigers, David Price is still struggling to get free from his. The pitcher is coming off two extra days of rest after some shaky outings and is in need of a bounce back start. Meanwhile, Cabrera is back to his big-hitting ways and is looking to keep the streak alive as the Tigers face off against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Over the past two days, Cabrera has looking like his two-time MVP self after going 6 for 10 with three home runs. On Friday, he went 3 for 5 in historical fashion after getting his 399th home run to tie with Andres Galarraga for the most home runs from any Venezuelan-born player. He is now batting .197 in 18 games.
Night and day games have been a difference for Cabrera. His night average is now improving, but is still no match for how he plays during the day. He is hitting .471 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs in day games. He is also hitting .415 with six home runs and 17 RBIs in road games. Cabrera could continue that on Saturday as the Tigers get a nice day game against the Cardinals.
St. Louis will try and counter the success of Cabrera with Tyler Lyons who has a 4.82 ERA on the season and making his third start in place of other stars who are still rehabbing injuries for the Cardinals. Lyons has looked decent in his three outings, but not great. He gave up three runs and five hits in five innings before leaving without a decision against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dealing with the big bats of the Tigers is not an easy way to get back on track with wins.
The Tigers are hoping that Price can find his momentum. After taking extra rest the pitcher needs to bounce back after giving up five runs and 13 hits in six innings of play against the Kansas City Royals. He tweaked his hamstring in the process which caused him to miss time. The Tigers believe the pitcher is healthy and ready to play following the minor injury.
