Week 3 is coming up and these are the Power Rankings after the second week of football. The 49ers are the best team in the NFL in my eyes. The Patriots' loss does not mean much. The Houston Texans enter the top three as they have allowed the least points in the NFL so far and have lit up the scoreboard in their first two games. They might be the most balanced team in the AFC when it's all said and done. A win for the Ravens would have probably placed them in the Top 3, but the Eagles pulled out the win.
Here are the Power Rankings entering Week 3.
1. San Francisco 49ers (0)
The San Francisco 49ers continued their dominance with a victory over the Detroit Lions. They look to be the most complete team in the NFL. Vernon Davis is the best tight end in the NFL and the defense made Matt Stafford look like any other quarterback.
2. New England Patriots (0)
If I were a Patriots' fan I would not worry. If I were a Patriot hater I would not celebrate too much. The Patriots are will still dominate the league despite Aaron Hernandez being injured. They almost came back on Sunday after trailing big.
3. Houston Texans (+1)
The Texans are demanding everybody's attention. They are not only winning against teams like the Jaguars, they are destroying them. After a 27-7 victory, they bump up into the Top 3.
4. Green Bay Packers (+1)
The Packers regained their form as they made the Bears look horrendous on Monday. The Packers' defense was on point. Cedric Benson finished the game with over 100 yards of total offense.
5. Baltimore Ravens (-2)
The Ravens lost a tough one to the Eagles. They were on top during the first half and then only score 6 points in the second half. Ravens are still one of the best teams in the league though.
6. Atlanta Falcons (+1)
Matt Ryan is trying to prove a point. The Falcons' defense picked Peyton Manning off three times in the first quarter, plus recovered a forced fumble. The game tightened at the end, but the Falcons were dominant throughout.
7. New York Giants (-1)
It was a scary one on Sunday. The Giants almost fell 0-2, but with 510 passing yards, Eli Manning, Cruz and Nicks led the Giants back. Giants are getting the hint that people want to beat them. Bucs went for a strip despite there only being 5 seconds left on the clock. Look for the Giants to toughen up as well.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (+5)
The Steelers were another team that returned to form as they showed the Jets that they are still a force. Wallace and Roethlisberger hooked up for a 37-yard bomb while the Steelers' defense kept Sanchez on check.
9 Philadelphia Eagles (+3)
The Eagles are for real so far. Despite trailing late in games they have found ways to win. The Eagles have to win on in the season. They could be Top 5, possibly better than the Packers, but they will have to stay healthy. They hit a tough stretch soon. Let's see what they will do then.
10 Denver Broncos (-1)
Peyton Manning said he was rusty and boy did he prove it in the first quarter. Three interceptions were thrown by Manning. When the Broncos thought running was safe Moreno fumbled. Broncos almost came back, but Monday Night's game was pretty ugly
11. Detroit Lions (0)
The Lions could not get their offense back on the field late in the game. Stafford looked human and has thrown more interceptions so far in 2012 than touchdowns.
12. Dallas Cowboys (-2)
They taketh and giveth. After looking super good in Week 1 against the Giants the 'Boys lost to a rookie quarterback. Romo's best receiver was Miles Austin. There was no Ogletree. Murray struggled from the ground and their running defense gave up 100+ to Lynch.
13. Chicago Bears (-5)
The Bears had a more than disappointing game against Packers. Cutler could not back up his smack and the Packers made him pay.
14. San Diego Chargers (+2)
Are the Chargers for real? They lit up the scoreboard like the Chargers of old. They totaled five touchdowns, three through the air, two on the ground and their defense was smothering. They are in first place in the AFC West.
15. Arizona Cardinals (+4)
The Cardinals are 2-0 tied with the Niners for first? Yes. Their offense is questionable, but their special teams and defense are making it happen for them so far. Wonder what will happen when Larry Fitzgerald wakes up.
16. New York Jets (-1)
The Jets went back to being the Jets everybody expected to see in Week 1. Sanchez only threw for 138 as he was scrambling from the Steelers' defense. Jets were out-bullied on Sunday.
17. Washington Redskins (0)
Discipline is something the team needs to learn apparently. They could have been 2-0. They lost a disappointing one to the Rams. Redskins will be tough. They are a team nobody trying to make the playoffs at the end of the season will want to face.
18. Seattle Seahawks (+3)
They won and looked good against the Cowboys. So does this mean the Seahawks could wipe the floor with the Giants this year? They have given up the least points in the NFC. Might be the best third-place team in the NFL.
19. Cincinnati Bengals (-1)
This is the Dalton everybody in the Bengals' organization wants to see. 300+ yards and three TDs while going 24/31. Defense has to tighten it up before they are considered one of the better teams of the league.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0)
Josh Freeman showed the nation what he can do this year with Jackson on the outside. Giants controlled most of the clock, but the Bucs' defense kept them in the game. Bucs are looking good, but their defense could not close out the game giving up 25 points in the fourth.
21. New Orleans Saints (-7)
Wow. 0-2 start for the Saints and the Falcons charging is not a good sign down in N.O. Saints' defense did not show up in this one as Cam Newton was almost perfect on the ground and throwing.
22. Carolina Panthers (-7)
If Cam Newton could legally pass the ball to himself he would lead the team in receiving too. He had 71 yards (team high) and threw for 253 as he led the Panthers past the Saints. If they beat the Giants on Thursday they will certainly move higher in the rankings.
23. Tennessee Titans (-1)
Chris Johnson tried firing up the club, but it might take more than the O'line to fix problems down in Tennessee. Defense was lit up for 38 points on Sunday against the Chargers.
24. Cleveland Browns (+2)
Could it possible to be a decent 0-2 team? Or at least to Browns standards... We'll see how much they drop after Week 3.
25. Buffalo Bills (+4)
The Bills handled the Chiefs and C.J. Spiller is currently the best running back in the league.
26. Indianapolis Colts (+2)
Andrew Luck tasted victory for the first time in the NFL. Defense almost spoiled it. I have faith in Luck and the offense, but Colts' D is shaky.
27. St. Louis Rams (+4)
The Rams escaped with a victory as their defense shut down the Redskins offense in the second half. Bradford schooled Griffin and Amendola is one of the top receivers right now.
28. Miami Dolphins (+2)
Tannehill and the Dolphins won on Sunday, but the story was Reggie Bush going 172 and two TDs.
29. Kansas City Chiefs (-4)
Hmmm. There was a lot of hype in Chiefs' camp, but that's all they have been so far in 2012. Hype.
30. Jacksonville Jaguars (-3)
Did they really have a chance against Houston? Gabberts' numbers? Eli Manning had more in the one pass to Victor Cruz that went into the end zone. Enough said.
31. Oakland Raiders (-5)
The Raiders have a very poor running game. Palmer handled his with 373 passing yards, but the Raiders' defense also betrayed them.
32. Minnesota Vikings (-2)
The Vikings tried making a comeback late in the game, but they dug themselves in too big of a hole in the first half. If Peterson only rushes for 60 with no TD's then the Vikings will not win.
