Yunel Escobar Suspension: Intentionally Written Slur Grants Shortstop 3 Games

It was decided Tuesday that Yunel Escobar will serve an unpaid three-game suspension after the gay slur that was written on the shortstop's eye-black in Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox. 

The shortstop will begin to serve his suspension Tuesday night as the Blue Jays embark on a divisional series against the New York Yankees. 

It was reported that Escobar, who has been characterized as an immature player throughout his career, admitted to writing the slur himself, which makes matters worse.

Toronto Blue Jays' twitter account said the salary Escobar was set to make during those three games will me donated to charities. The Blue Jays will donate this money to You Can Play and GLAAD.

Also, Escobar will participate in an outreach program that will attempt to teach about the sensitivities that action shut as his have on other people in communities all over the world. 

Prior the press conference the Jays released a statement in regards to Escobar's actions:

"The Toronto Blue Jays do not support discrimination of any kind nor condone the message displayed by Yunel Escobar during Saturday's game," it said. "The club takes this situation seriously and is investigating the matter." 

The Blue Jays will have a tough road ahead of them. Expect Escobar to be booed by fans when he visits other stadiums. He might even get a few jeers while at home.
