Benfica and Celtic will lock up in a Group G matchup on Wednesday at Glasgow. Their match is set to take place at 2:45 p.m. ET/7:45 GMT.
Benfica will try to repeat the first half of their performance in 2011-2012 when they finished in first place in their pool. Then they faced teams like Basel, Manchester United and Otelul. They took first place with three wins and three draws where they finished with 12 points.
They will enter the tournament short of their superstars. Their captain Luisao was banned for two months after an altercation with official Christian Fischer. What makes matters worse is that the suspension came during a pre-season friendly. Also missing from their lineup due to suspension is Maxi Pereira.
Head coach Jorge Jesus will not be present, but he thinks his club can still pull out the victory.
"We are very confident," Jesus said. "It's important to note that we focus on the game. All players have the same important. My concern is the opposition, missing players is a secondary concern."
The Portugese will visit a Celtic team in Scotland tat will surely have their roaring fans rooting behind them. This should make things a bit hard for Benfica.
However, fans online predict that Benfica will walk away with the victory. 50 percent said Benfica would win, while 30 precent had it going the Celtic's way. The other 20 percent saw the match ending in a draw.
Celtic comes into this match on a 4-1 role, while Benfica is 3-0-2.
