Arsenal Transfer News: It's Too Early to Call Us Title Contenders, But We are Working Towards it, Says Lukas Podolski

Lukas Podolski has been a revelation since signing for Arsenal, scoring three goals in his last three games. However, despite his good personal form and his side's impressive start, Podolski believes it is still too early to call the Gunners title contenders.

Flattering to deceive has been the norm of Arsenal sides over the past few years, and despite the current line-up looking like a professional team unit, the experienced players -which is what constitutes a lot of the current team -- will know a few more consistent performances will be essential, starting with the away fixture against Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

"We have only played four matches," Podolski told the club's official website. It's (too early) to speak about the championship.

"When you win a match, you are not a champion. When you lose a match, you are not a champion.

"We want to win all the matches we play and I think if we play the same as we did against Liverpool and Southampton then we have a chance at Man City to get the three points.

"It's very important (to keep playing well). We have had some strong matches, but Man City played in Madrid and now against us -- it's a tough week."

While several fans questioned the capability of Podolski making a huge impact at the Emirates, the German international, along with another new signing Santi Cazorla, have been the two best players going forward. The Gunners have also looked extremely compact and disciplined at the back, having conceded only one goal in the English Premier League so far.

The experienced forward scored the crucial equalizer against Montpellier in Tuesday's Champions League game, with Gervinho then netting the winner two minutes later, in their 2-1 victory. Podolski is happy to chip in with the goals, but believes the final result is all that matters.

"I'm happy to score goals for the team and the club," he said. "We're also very happy with the three points -- it was very important for us.

"We played very well in the first half after the Montpellier goal. The second half was not so good. We didn't play so well going forwards, but what was important was the three points."
