Athletic Bilbao will face Kiryat Shmona Thursday as teams get ready to play in the seasons' first matches of the 2012-2013 UEFA Europa League. This fixture is set to kick off at 3 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CEST
For Athletic, it was not the ending they expected as they were beaten by their fellow Spaniards, Atletico de Madrid in a 3-0 showdown in the 2011-2012 Finals of last season.
It was disappointing, but nevertheless, they were the second best team in the league last season. They finished with a 4-1-1 record in the first round of the league in 2011 as they dominated Group F.
So far this year as leagues have launched all around the soccer world, Athletic is 2-1-2 in their previous five matches.
They have two 3-3 draws against Cadiz and Espanyol in the past month. Atletico de Madrid gave them a 4-0 whooping, but Bilbao had shut out Cadiz 6-0 in their first game and they also shutout Valladolid 2-0.
For Kiryat Shmona, they have played four matches in the past month and a half. They are 1-1-2 and their last match played was on August 28 which ended in a 1-1 draw against FC Bate Borisov.
Kiryat Shmona forms part of the Israeli Premie League.
The fans believe Athelic will win this one easily. Some even predict an 8-0 thrashing of Kiryah Shmona, which is a bit exaggerated.
