The Texas Rangers may have Josh Hamilton on the major league roster soon once the outfielder completes his rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock and his debut in 2015 likely will be on Monday in Cleveland against the Indians rather than this weekend against the New York Yankees and fantasy baseball owners should look at him a worthwhile pickup.
Hamilton has played well during his rehab assignment, hitting for a .387 average in 10 games and he could give the Rangers a boost in the middle of the lineup. According to Hardball Talk, there was a chance that Hamilton would join the team this weekend for the series against the Yankees, but that is looking unlikely. Jeff Wilson on Twitter reports that Hamilton likely will debut with the team on Monday.
Hamilton is coming back from a shoulder issue and he is hitting .387/.424/.516 with four doubles in 10 games split between Double-A and Triple-A. Hamilton also has one home run during his rehab assignment.
Hamilton is a low risk pickup for fantasy owners, as he has been terrible the past couple years, but he could bounce back in his second stint with the Rangers. Hamilton is basically worthless fantasy wise, so he is a low risk, high upside option with the way he performed in the past in Texas. Things did not work out in Anaheim and the way he left obviously was tough, but now he gets the chance for a fresh start.
