Dallas Mavericks Rumors: DeAndre Jordan Sign and Trade With Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton To LA Clippers Option?

May 28, 2015 02:53 PM EDT

The Dallas Mavericks are interested in DeAndre Jordan as a free agent this summer and the team could look at a sign and trade with Tyson Chandler as a way to get him, as the Los Angeles Clippers could be interested in Chandler along with Raymond Felton, as Jordan is expected to get a major contract offer in free agency.

Chandler and Jordan are both set to hit the market as free agents this summer and a sign and trade could be a beneficial move for both teams. According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Mavericks are interested in making the move, as they really want to sign Jordan this offseason and he has shown a willingness to come to Dallas. MacMahon writes that the deal has been mentioned in "Mavs front-office offseason brainstorming sessions" and would "make sense" for both sides to pull off.

MacMahon adds that the Mavericks likely would want Felton in the deal as well and that the Clippers could go through with it to get Chandler. Jordan is going to cost a ton of money and with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul already in LA, Doc Rivers could look at flipping the more expensive Jordan for Chandler. The move with a sign and trade could help Jordan get the money he wants, as signing with the Clippers enables him to get a bigger deal than on the open market.

The deal with the Clippers for Jordan would give him $109 million over five years and that is why a sign and trade would interest him, as other teams can give him less money. The Clippers offer will have an extra year and other offers would be in the $80 million range for Jordan. The Mavericks made the playoffs this season and now the team could be in for some major changes this offseason with Chandler potentially leaving and Parsons coming in after a major injury.

Jordan likely will get some attention on the market this offseason, as teams like the Knicks, Lakers and Celtics all will have money to spend. Jordan has not been mentioned too much in rumors connected to teams apart from the Mavericks, but that likely will change once it gets closer to the summer. Jordan had a very strong season for the Clippers and he should get some attention on the market if the Mavericks sign and trade deal does not go down.

Jordan is among a strong class of players on the market up front, including names like Greg Monroe, LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol and potentially Kevin Love. If Love opts out of his contract with the Cavaliers, he likely will be the top free agent on the market, but he if he stays, teams that would go after Love could go after Jordan. Jordan comes in after averaging 11 points and 15 rebounds per game this season and he played in all 82 games on the schedule. Jordan has not dealt with any major injuries over the past few years and has played in all 82 games in each of the past two seasons.
