The MLB season is at the quarter mark for 2015 and there are some early awards leaders and surprises, as Bryce Harper is having a season for the ages and is leading the NL MVP race, the Houston Astros have been the most surprising team in baseball, while Felix Hernandez has eight wins already and a miniscule ERA to put him ahead in the AL Cy Young battle.
Harper is having a massive season and he just put up a month that was only rivaled by Babe Ruth, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Harper has 18 home runs on the season with 43 RBIs and he is hitting .331 with 42 walks in 157 at-bats. This is his best start to any season by far and he is pushing the MVP race right now with his pace. In the AL Nelson Cruz is having a mammoth season and if the Mariners can play better, he should be in the MVP race.
Last year Corey Kluber stole the Cy Young from Hernandez and he appears to have taken that to heart, as he has been fantastic to start the season. Hernandez has been strong apart from one start this year and through May 28 he is 8-1 this season with a 1.91 ERA and he is in the top three in nearly all pitching categories in the AL. Hernandez has won a Cy Young and he is already establishing himself as one of the best pitchers of all time. Hernandez was the first pitcher to eight wins this season and he has 71 K's in 70 innings of work.
The Houston Astros have been the biggest surprise in the MLB this season and they are one of the best teams with a 30-18 record. The team may hit some regression at some point, but they have a six game lead over the Mariners and for the moment have the most wins in the AL. That is a major surprise with the team rebuilding and they have the young talent to keep it up. The Cardinals have the most wins in baseball while the Yankees, Twins, Nationals, Dodgers and Astros are the other division leaders.
