Before the blockbuster deal that brought veteran guard Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Lakers attempted to pull off another blockbuster deal to acquire superstar point guard Chris Paul.
The three-team deal would've sent Pau Gasol to the Houston Rockets and Lamar Odom to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Paul, but NBA Commissioner David Stern pulled the plug on the trade before it became official.
The vetoed trade left Gasol and Odom feeling expendable and ultimately resulted in endless trade rumors surrounding the Spaniard and the reigning Sixth Man of the Year forcing his way to the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks.
Fortunately, missing out on Paul may have helped the Lakers out in the long run.
As we know the Lakers were able to bring in Nash and Dwight Howard via trade eight months later. The two superstar acquisitions vastly improved the roster and has potentially created another dynasty in Los Angeles.
Local L.A. celebrity and avid Lakers fan hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg a.k.a Snoop Lion thanked Stern for vetoing the Paul trade and believes the Lakers will be the team to beat in the NBA next season as a result of bringing Nash and Howard.
