The Oakland Athletics visit Arlington Ballpark, home of the first place Texas Rangers. They will meet up in the third game of their four-game series and both teams have split the first two games.
Last night, the Athletics finished on top as they needed 10 innings to decide this game. Mark Kottaras hit a game-winning home run in the top of the tenth to give the A's the 3-2 victory. Mark Lowe took the loss for the Rangers. Evan Schribner got the win and Grant Balfour got two strikeouts for the save.
It was a big win for the A's. They were able to cut the deficit back to four games in the AL West and they took advantage of the abcense of Yu Darvish who was scratched from his start hours before the game.
On the mound tonight, for the Athletics, will be right hander Jarod Parker. He is 11-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 27 games pitched this season.
Parker has been almost unhittable in the month of September. In his last 29 innings pitched, he has only giving up six runs.
Martin, the Rangers' hurler, has been designated to more of a long relief man out of the bullpen. He has one start in September, but has pitched 13.1 innings. In that start he went four innings and gave up three earned runs.
The A's obviously have the advantage with the pitching matchup, but the Rangers still possess one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball featuring players like Ian Kinsler, Michael Young, Nelson Cruz, Mike Napoli and of course, Josh Hamilton.
