Minnesota Twins Rumors and News: Byron Buxton Called Up For MLB Debut, Scores Winning Run Against Rangers

The Minnesota Twins have been one of the best teams in baseball this season and they have called up top prospect Byron Buxton to make his MLB debut and in his first game the outfielder scored the winning run against the Texas Rangers on Sunday despite not getting a hit.

Buxton was called up and was penciled in at ninth in the lineup for the Twins and he made an impact right away. Buxton came in and got on base on a fielder's choice and ended up scoring the winning run in the game. According to Hardball Talk, Buxton went hitless in four at-bats and had two strikeouts, but he made the most of his first game, scoring from first base after a hit from Eddie Rosario.

The inning started off with Eduardo Escobar hitting a double and after that Buxton hit a ball to the pitcher, who caught Escobar on the bases while he was between second and third. After Brian Dozier hit a pop up for the second out, Rosario hit a ball into the outfield that scored Buxton. Buxton was trying to move the runner over to third with a bunt, but it went too hard at the pitcher and it ended up putting him in position to be the hero.

Buxton was expected to make his debut this year for the Twins, as he was playing very well in the minors. Buxton had a .283 average with six home runs and 20 stolen bases this year at Double-A Chattanooga and he also was hitting over .450 in his last eight games. The 21 year old was taken in the first round in 2012 with the second overall pick after the Astros took Carlos Correa. Both players have made their MLB debuts this month. Buxton was ranked as the number one prospect by MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus coming into the season.
