Olivier Giroud got the monkey off his back after scoring his first goal in an Arsenal shirt in the League Cup game against Coventry City, and the striker hopes it is the harbinger of many more such days.
A nice calm chip over Coventry goalkeeper Joe Murphy, after the ball broke to him kindly, showed the finishing ability that the French international striker has in abundance.
Giroud scored 21 goals in the French League last season, and knows with the creative talents at his new club, chances will eventually come; it is just a matter of being patient and taking them when it arrives.
However, more than joy, it was relief that was the primary emotion the 25-year-old felt after breaking his duck. "This goal has taken the pressure off me," he told the club's official website. "It's done, I have my first goal. But it has to be the start of a beautiful adventure.
"Even unconsciously I was thinking about this first goal. I tried not to think about it but my family, friends and a lot of people were talking to me about it.
"For a striker, it's always good to find the net again. I have an assist already this season but it's not like a goal. For a striker, it's important for the confidence. I hope many more will follow.
"I want to play week in, week out, find my rhythm and keep scoring. I am convinced that with some perseverance, it will come."
Giroud acknowledged playing in the French League was different from performing in the more physical Premier League, but the striker does not lack in confidence and believes he will adapt well and continue to score.
"In regards of my adaptation, I feel that there is a lot of room for improvement," he said. "I feel good, better and better. I need to keep improving how I can hold the ball up as I am playing against tougher defenders.
"I also need to improve in front of goal to be more efficient and clinical. I am working on all of that and I am quite confident for the rest of the season."
Giroud will be hoping for a start against Chelsea in the English Premier League game on Saturday, and the Frenchman knows the importance of the London Derby. "(The Coventry result) was the perfect win before Chelsea, a very important game. It brings a lot of confidence for me but also for the team," he added.
"Now, we need to think about the league. It's a massive game and I hope it will come our way."
The Gunners lie four points behind leaders Chelsea, but are unbeaten and have shown in their performances so far they could be genuine title contenders. "The start of the season has been very positive -- we need to build on that," Giroud said. "I feel the players are serene.
"We're not getting carried away, we know it's just the start of the season and everything goes very quick in football. We are still unbeaten and it's very good. We are not conceding many goals and we score a lot so it's very good.
"We will face a big team on Saturday, Chelsea, after a very good performance at Man City. It will be interesting to see how the team copes. (We hope to) continue our march forward, stay unbeaten and come back to just a point behind them."
