Cole Hammer comes in as the youngest player in the field and he has been off to a solid start with some birdie chances and was even though a couple. Mickelson and McIlroy are in action along with Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott and Mickelson took an early share of the lead at two under, but that was only through a handful of holes. Woods will be with Rickie Fowler and Louis Oosthuizen and Fowler comes in with many writers predicting this is his best chance to win a major.

The course at Chambers Bay has been the subject of numerous articles and many players have spoken about the unique layout. The lone tree and the design of some of the holes could give players some tough tests and this has been compared to Open Championship courses rather than past US Open courses. The coverage for Fox on TV will be at 12 pm noon on Fox Sports 1 and later FOX will pick up the primetime coverage.
The main website and Fox will have online coverage and there will be the "U.S. Open 360" with streams for the top groups and on certain holes. Jordan Spieth has eyes on him as well and he will be one of the late hitters on Thursday in the first round alongside Jason Day and Justin Rose in his group. Woods is looking to bounce back after his Memorial performance and he is hoping to stay in the mix through the weekend. Woods played a practice round earlier in the week and said that he has been putting better than he has in months and feels comfortable on the course.
