The San Francisco Giants have made some changes to the pitching rotation with Matt Cain set to make his 2015 season debut on Thursday, while Tim Lincecum was placed on the disabled list with a forearm injury as the team plays a series with the Miami Marlins.
Cain is making his first start since dealing with a tendon strain in spring training and CSN Bay Area reports that he will be pitching on Thursday against the Marlins in the series finale. Andrew Baggarly reports that Cain had a "clean bill of health" in spring training after having elbow surgery last year, but he dealt with a right flexor tendon strain and has not pitched since. Cain has been working a rehab assignment and had four starts with a 4.19 ERA.
Cain wet 2-7 last season in 15 starts and that was the first time that Cain made less than 30 starts since back in 2005 when he was a rookie. Cain is hoping to pitch well and stay healthy for the rest of the season as the Giants try and repeat as World Series champions.
According to Hardball Talk, Tim Lincecum will be placed on the disabled list after coming down with a forearm bruise and he will miss a few starts until he is healed up. The Giants have been using a mix of
Madison Bumgarner, Tim Hudson, Jake Peavy, Lincecum, Ryan Vogelsong and Chris Heston this season and now they have Cain back.
