The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a deal with free agent DeAndre Jordan and moving forward a sign and trade could be worked out with the LA Clippers to finish things off and this comes as the Mavs are also looking for a point guard and Jeremy Lin could be a target with Rajon Rondo going to the Kings and Patrick Beverley staying with the Rockets.
Jordan met with the Mavericks, Lakers, Knicks and some other teams, but Dallas was always considered the favorite for his services. According to Marc Stein at ESPN, Jordan has agreed to a four year deal worth $80 million and this comes after the team brought in Wesley Matthews. The Mavericks are also looking to sign Jeremy Lin to a deal, as ESPN reports that the team is "firmly" in the mix to sign Lin to a contract.
The Mavericks were looking to be aggressive this offseason with players like Jordan and LaMarcus Aldridge on the market, but if they missed out on top names again, it could have been another rebuild in Dallas. Instead, the team signed Matthews to a contract after a strong push from the Blazers, while Jordan has now chosen to sign with the Mavericks. According to Tim MacMahon at ESPN Dallas, the team is "hoping" to sign Lin and JJ Barea this offseason.
Stein reports that the relationship between Chandler Parsons and Lin front Lin's time in Houston could be a factor in the Mavericks getting Lin. Parsons reportedly helped a great deal in getting Jordan to sign in Dallas and he could do the same with Lin. The Mavericks were reportedly interested in Patrick Beverley, but with him signing back with the Rockets the team needs to find a point guard elsewhere. Rajon Rondo was not an option after the trade last season did not work out.
Stein reports that the team is "close to striking" a deal with JJ Barea and they could "waive and stretch" Felton to bring in Lin. Lin comes in after averaging 11 points and four assists last season for the Lakers after being traded to the team from the Rockets. MacMahon writes that the team "probably" will keep Felton is the team doesn't get "both" Lin and Barea. MacMahon reported that Felton is "highly resected" by the team and that could mean he ends up staying if only Lin is signed.
The Mavericks made major moves this offseason by agreeing to deals with Matthews and Jordan and it gives the team a chance to compete in the west. The Kings reportedly offered a four-year deal worth $64 million to Matthews, but he opted for a four year deal with the Mavericks. Jordan averaged 11 points and 15 rebounds last season with the Clippers and has turned into one of the best defensive players in the league. The Mavs let Tyson Chandler go and now they have Jordan and Matthews coming in.
