The Detroit Tigers will try to take a 2-0 lead in the series as they face the Oakland Athletics in Game 2 of the ALDS.
Taking the mound for the Tigers will be last season's trade deadline acquisition Doug Fister.
Fister had a couple of disabled list stints during the regular season, but he looks to work his way through the A's lineup who will be fighting to avoid the 0-2 hole.
Fister went 4-3 in his last 10 starts with a 3.34 ERA. He will be opposed by another one of the young arms in the A's pitching rotation as 25-year-old Tommy Malone will take the mound for the Athletics.
Malone, in his last 10 starts in the regular season, went 4-2 with a 3.88 ERA. He faced the Tigers twice this season and won the first matchup and received a no-decision in his most recent one on September 20.
He totaled 11.2 innings pitched with five runs, four earned on 14 hits. Fister has yet to face the Athletics this season.
Once again, for Malone and the A's, they will have to battle a Tigers lineup with the best 3-4 hitters in baseball. Miguel Cabrera will look to lead his Tigers to victory.
For the A's, strikeouts have been a problem all season long, Fister is not a power pitcher, but he has a lot of movement on his pitches, so the A's will have to show discipline if they want to stay in this one and score runs.
