NLDS Game 2 Nationals vs. Cardinals Results: Beltran Powers Red Birds to Tie Series at One

Oct 08, 2012 08:29 PM EDT

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals on Monday. They not only defeated them, they demolished the Nats 12-4 to tie the series at one as it heads to Washington.

Carlos Beltran took charge by hitting two homers and drove in three runs. The first one came off of Mike Gonzalez in the sixth inning and the second one came off of Sean Burnett.

The winner for the Cardinals tonight was Lance Lynn. He threw three innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits while striking five. He allowed two back-to-back homers to Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche in the fifth inning, but by that time, the Cardinals had a 7-1 cushion.

What happened to Jaime Garcia you might ask?

Mike Matheny did not like what he saw from the hurler and removed him from the game after the second inning. Garcia just did not have his best stuff in Game 2.

He went two innings, allowed a run and walked three. He did have three strikeouts in the game.

Jordan Zimmermann did not have his best stuff either. He went three innings and gave up five earned runs on seven hits. He walked none and struck out two.

Christ Carpenter will face off against Edwin Jackson on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET. The winner of Game 3 will have the 2-1 advantage and one win away from advancing to the NLCS.
