The New York Jets are fresh off a lost against the best team in the NFL, the Houston Texans 23-17 in Monday Night Football.
Though the loss was not as bad as presumed in predictions, the fans were still asking for Tim Tebow throughout the night.
When ever Tebow stepped on to the field, the fans were excited. When Tebow left the field, they immediately began booing, disappointed with the fact that Mark Sanchez was behind center.
Tebow finished the game with six carries and 19 yards. It must be added that they were hard earned yards and helped the Jets get pick up big first downs. He threw his only pass on rager to Jordan Hill, but the pass was dropped.
Sanchez threw for 230 yards, completed 14/31, had one touchdown and two interceptions. Sanchez now has six touchdowns and six interceptions in the season. To Sanchez's defense though, both balls he threw were tipped and his receivers dropped passes that could have been caught.
Not that Jets' management will pay attention to thirsty fans who want change, but if the Jets give Tebow the start and more snaps during their future games, that will be their way of saying they want to get away from the Sanchez era.
We have seen this before. I can immediately remember how quickly the New England Patriots dropped Drew Bledsoe as a young and rookie Tom Brady led the Pats to a game-winning Super Bowl drive against the favorites, St. Louis Rams back in 2001.
The Jets probably do not want to give the ball to Tebow yet because they know it will mean changing the playbook, their 2009 fifth overall pick and coaches.
The Denver Broncos proved that Tim Tebow could thrive in an unorthodox offense. So the Jets will probably not be ready to make these changes now, especially since Rex Ryan is more of a defensive minded coach.
Do I think Tebow is the answer to the Jets' 2012 problems? Not at all. They do not have a running game that will offer Tebow an adequte back he can truthfully fake to and draw their opponents attention as they are averaging only 83 yards a game.
Not that fans have a problem with it, but the day Tebow takes control will also be the day the Jets unofficially say that they will want to part ways with Sanchez.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans could probably use a quarterback right now, in case the Jets want to make a trade.
