Giants vs. Reds Results: San Francisco Wins Thanks to Scott Rolen Error in Extra Innings

The San Francisco Giants capitalized on defense mishaps by the Cincinnati Reds to stay alive in the NLDS with a 2-1 win in extra innings.

The Giants got things started at the top of the tenth with back-to-back singles. Belt struck out and then Xavier Nady struck out. Jonathan Broxton made things even more interesting with a pass ball that placed runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Joaquin Arias stayed alive in his at bat and finally hit a chopper to Scott Rolen, who could not handle the ball cleanly. He bobbled and was late with the throw to first. Buster Posey scored and the Giants took the lead.

The Giants and the Reds were tied 1-1 for a large part of this game.

Baley went on cruise control, throwing a no-hitter through 5.2 innings. At one point, he was so locked in he struck out six consecutive Giant hitters.

From the top of the fourth until the top of the sixth, Bailey went on strikeout streak, beginning with Buster Poser and ending with Aubrey Huff. He struck out Brandon Belt, Gregor Blanco and Crawford in the fifth inning, to retire the side.

Marco Scutaro, who had no hits coming into the game, sent a liner to right field in the top of the sixth to break up the no-hitter.

He went seven innings, gave up one hit and one run with 10 strikeouts.

Vogelsong did his best to keep the Giants' season alive, throwing one-run baseball for five innings.

The Reds scored first in the first as Jay Bruce singled in Zack Cozart. It would have been more, but Brandon Phillips got greedy as he was gunned down at third base after stealing second and attempting to reach third on a wild pitch by Vogelsong. Posey cut him down with a strike to Sandoval.

Blanco scored on an Angel Pagan sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The Giants will have Barry Zito on the mound tomorrow in attempt to tie the series 2-2.
