The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly went after the Ty Lawson trade with the Nuggets and the team could target players like Andre Miller, Norris Cole or Jason Terry as free agents, as LA may want some veteran support for Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell at point guard and this comes as JaVale McGee, Carlos Boozer, Kendrick Perkins and Kevin Seraphin are front line options in free agency.
The Lakers have been encouraged by both Clarkson and Russell this summer, but the team realizes that they have just one combined season of pro experience coming into this year. According to RealGM, the Lakers were the other main target pushing for the Ty Lawson trade and the Nuggets ended up sending him to the Houston Rockets. The interest in Lawson is not an indictment on the young guards, but an acknowledgement that maybe LA needs some veteran blood on the roster at PG.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Andre Miller, Jason Terry, Pablo Prigioni, Ish Smith and Norris Cole remain on the market and could be potential targets for the Lakers. The team has made a number of additions this offseason with Brandon Bass, Roy Hibbert and Lou Williams, but the Lakers let Jeremy Lin go and now they do not have a veteran point guard. Miller has had some interest on the market from the Kings and Rockets, but Houston is likely out of the mix with Lawson there.
The same goes for Terry, as he had interest from the Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets, but with Lawson in Houston now, it's very likely that he will not sign there. Norris Cole remains on the market and he could be a low level option for the Lakers. Cole has experience playing in a backup role and he has played on a championship team in Miami. The Sixers reportedly have had interest in Cole and the Pelicans also may try and retain him as a free agent.
The Lakers have also reportedly been looking for some front line help, as ESPN Los Angeles reports that Kevin Seraphin is a target for the team. Marc Stein reported that Seraphin has had interest from the Wizards, Mavericks and Lakers and he could sign soon. The team also could look at Perkins, who had interest from the Clippers before the team brought back DeAndre Jordan. Stein reports that McGee is a target on the market for the Mavericks and if they sign Samuel Dalembert instead, the Lakers could take a look at McGee. McGee has missed time due to injuries in the past two seasons, but he played 23 games last season for the Sixers.
The Lakers have looked into some trade deals this summer with Nick Young and that also could help the team get the frontline player they are looking for. Right now Bill Oram of the Orange County Register reports that the team is keeping Young, but the Cavaliers could be an option, as the team is trying to deal the contract of Brendan Haywood. Sam Amico of Fox Sports reported that the Lakers were one of the teams interested in bringing in Haywood.
