The MLB trade deadline normally features a number of teams offering up players they know they cannot re-sign in hopes of getting some in return for their services. With several marquee names up for grabs, David Price is finding himself potentially on the move once again. The pitcher was sent from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Detroit Tigers who are now falling out of the playoff picture and aiming to deal Price as he plays out the final year of his contract. The former Cy Young winner is not thrilled.
Price has certainly heard the rumors surrounding his name and he is not thrilled over the idea of changing teams once again. The pitcher told the media that he certainly wants to win and win with the Tigers, but it is out of his hands.
"I guess I'll kind of know one way or the other in a couple weeks, but yeah, I want to win here," Price said, via the Detroit News. "We have a very good team. This is hands down one of the most talented teams I've ever been a part of. So, if we can just play baseball the way we are capable of playing, we will win games. With all of the talent we have in this room and as good a team as we feel we have, yeah, it's surprising. We haven't played as well as we are capable of playing and everybody in here knows that. We continue to work hard, it just hasn't gone our way thus far. The next couple of weeks is very important for us. We plan on winning a lot of games."
According to Tim Kurkjian of ESPN.com, the Chicago Cubs are preparing to offer up Starlin Castro in a deal for the pitcher. The Boston Blobe is reporting the Dodgers have Yasiel Puig they could offer in a trade deal. According to ESPNNewYork.com, the Yankees are not aiming to make any high-priced deals, but if they believe they have a package that could get them Price, the team might make the move. The same can be said for the Houston Astros who are wanting one more big arm for the remainder of the season.
Price is going to be a free agent next year which is factoring to the trade interest around him. The pitcher will command a lot of money on the open market and a number of teams might not be ready to offer him that.
