The Fan Expo LLC, a company partly owned by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has sued the NFL for $1 million. The lawsuit is over a canceled fantasy football event in Las Vegas that would have NFL players in attendance.
In the lawsuit it alleges that the NFL initially approved of the event until they found out that it was to be held at a venue (Sands Expo) associated with a casino (Venetian Resort). The suit also claims the NFL threatened players and their families with disciplinary action if they showed up which caused the cancellation of the event.
The lawsuit also stated that "this case is about the NFL's blatant and premeditated sabotage of an event designed to bring together the very people who are the backbone of the NFL, the players and the fans. Given the NFL's close ties to gambling, to now argue that the NFFC's July 2015 event was a violation of the gambling policy is utterly disingenuous. "Instead, the NFL, recognizing the commercial opportunities available to the NFFC, likely decided to kill Tony Romo's effort so that it could replace it with one of its own."
60 NFL players were slated to attend and another thirty five were considering taking part. The event itself was fantasy football driven having clinics with fantasy football guru's, meet and greets with players, among other activities. Refunds were promptly handed out to the fans who had already booked trips. The event is slated to move to Los Angeles (coincidental) next summer.
