--------------WELCOME TO THE LIVE BLOG-----------------

The Washington Nationals host Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals in a series that is knotted at one game apiece. First pitch is right around 1 p.m. so join us for the first of four games, or how they like to say in TBS, a "quadruple-header."

Preview: Pitching Matchups
It will be Chris Carpenter against Edwin Jackson in Game 3.

Carpenter is fresh off the DL. He made only three starts during the regular season going 0-2 despite pitching well. He posted a 3.71 ERA giving up seven runs in 17 innings, but never recorded a win.

He has nine postseason wins in his resume as he has made 15 postseaon starts in his career. He has a career record of 4-1 in the Division Series with a 2.71 ERA. Last season, in the Cardinals' championship year, Carpenter went 4-0 on six starts with a 3.25 ERA.

Carpenter's opposition, Edwin Jackson, was his former teammate and shared a spot in the starting rotation during the 2011 playoffs.

Jackson made one start in the division series and won that game. But that win was the best start he had in his four appearances. Jackson finished the 2011 postseason with a 1-1 record, a 5.60 ERA in four starts.

Without a doubt Carpenter and the red birds have the advantage in Game 3.

Home Field Advantage:
The Washington Nationals finished the season with the best record in baseball. They were 50-31 at home. The good news for them is that the Cardinals went 38-43 on the road. However, that did not stop them from going into Atlanta and taking the Wild Card Game from the Braves.

Home Run City?
With both clubs having all these sluggers, it is important to point out that on average, there are two home runs hit at Nationals Park per game. That is the sixth highest rate in the National League.
