Miami Dolphins Rumors: Evan Mathis Signed Over Wes Welker, Reggie Wayne for Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills Help? Ryan Tannehill Pushes Lamar Miller, Greg Jennings

The Miami Dolphins spent a lot of money this offseason. In an effort to become playoff contenders they handed out the offseason's biggest deal to Ndamukong Suh before signing names like Jordan Cameron and CJ Mosley to round out the roster. That could be enough to get Miami to where they want to be, but one lingering weakness could haunt them all season if they fail to address it. Heading into training camp, the offensive line is still a big question mark for the franchise and there is a player on the market who can fix it.

There is lingering doubt that the current offensive line is built well enough to protect Ryan Tannehill. After giving the quarterback a nice long-term contract, the Dolphins need to do everything they can to make him successful and Ja'Wuan James, Mike Pouncey and Branden Albert are not enough. According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins could become the leading candidate for Mathis which could cap off a big offseason for the team as they try and become playoff contenders. That would give the team four extremely talented starters in front of Tannehill.

With limited salary cap space available, the Dolphins can likely only hand out one more deal in training camp. They must decide what their priority is as there are lingering gaps in the wide receiver rotation as well. With DeVante Parker potentially missing the start of the season, the Dolphins could eye someone like Wes Welker or Reggie Wayne to add until the rookie comes back. Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills will take over as the top two receivers while Greg Jennings works in, but is that enough to get the job done at the beginning of the season?

It is unclear what the contract demands of Mathis are, but that is likely the reason he remains unsigned to this point. With several Pro Bowls to his name, Mathis has the resume to demand a nice contract. That is what got him released from the Philadelphia Eagles. At this point in time, most teams do not have them money to meet whatever his asking price is. The Atlanta Falcons have some cap space to spare. The Oakland Raiders could potentially afford him, but the market is small if he wants a multi-year deal. The Dolphins would ideally like to get Mathis, but they need him to accept less in a contract.
