Kansas City Chiefs News and Rumors: Sean Smith Suspended By NFL

Jul 24, 2015 12:27 PM EDT

It has been announced that Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith was suspended for three games by the NFL. Smith allegedly violated the league's substance abuse policy by pleading guilty to a DUI charge. Smith was given two years' probation and with this being his first offense the policy only calls for two games however because Smith's car damaged a light pole and extra game is added for aggravating circumstances.

The Chiefs now start off the season without one of their most valuable pieces and easily their best corner.

The depth behind Smith includes Phillip Gaines, Jamell Fleming, Marcus Cooper, and Ron Parker however the Chiefs did draft Marcus Peters and Steven Nelson in the 2015 NFL draft. With this suspension look for the Chiefs too try to make Peters the number one corner.

The Chiefs are also losing Smith during games against the Broncos and Packers heavy pass oriented offenses. The Chiefs will need to gain some serious productivity out of their reserve corners and draft picks to deal with Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.

The Chiefs first game is against the Texans, a team that has not figured out their quarterback situation entirely so it should be a good test for these newly drafted corners and how effective they can be.
