The Oakland Athletics will host the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.
The Tigers will have a chance to put the series away if they win tonight. Meanwhile, the A's will try to stay alive and push for a Game 5 at home.
We all saw what the Athletics can do when they pitch well and play defense. Last night, the A's pitching shut down the powerful lineup of the Detroit Tigers. Well, to be specific, the powerful three and four hitters of the Tigers' lineup.
When the pitching slacked and made a mistake, Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes were there with the leather to prevent Prince Fielder from reaching.
Speaking of Cespedes, he continued to impress with another playoff RBI with a base hit up the middle to score a run. Seth Smith added insurance with a home run as the A's pitching staff only need those two runs to win.
Brett Anderson went six innings and Ryan Cook, Sean Doolittle and Grant Balfour handled business also shutting down the Tigers.
On the mound for the Tigers will be right hander Max Scherzer who arguably had his best season in 2012 with a 16-7 records and 231 strikeouts in 187.2 innings pitched.
The bad news for the A's is that Scherzer is a strikeout pitcher and the A's recorded the most strikeouts as an offense in American League history with 1,387 in the season.
On the mound for the A's is A..J. Griffin who pitched in the last game of the regular season, which the team won 12-5, but Griffin gave up five runs, four earned over just 2.2 innings.
