The St. Louis Cardinals will look to close out their series with the Washington Nationals with a victory in Game 4 at 4:07 p.m. at Nationals Park.
After winning the wild card game against the Atlanta Braves, Kyle Lohse gets the start at the mound against the Nationals.
In two appearances against the Nationals, Lohse allowed 17 hits, 12 runs (9 earned) and three home runs.
To counter Lohse, the Nationals will send left-hander Ross Detwiler to the mound. For the year Detwiller is 7-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 14 starts at Nationals Park.
Detwiler is a former top prospect who threw his first full MLB season in 2012. He finished it with an ERA of 3.40, but his low strikeout rate suggests he's reachable.
He has never pitched in the postseason and in his one start against the Cardinals, he allowed seven runs (three earned) in a 10-4 Nationals loss.
Carlos Beltran is 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs against Detwiler. Jon Jay (1 for 2, RBI), Pete Kozma (1 for 1, double, two RBIs) and Daniel Descalso (1 for 2) have also fared well in their limited exposure to the young lefthander.
