The Washington Redskins have a lot of players on the bubble this season and the success of their year will likely rise or fall based on how they perform. After back-to-back disappointing years, the Redskins are hopeful things turn around in 2015 as they aim to get back into postseason contention. That will depend on what kind of improvements Robert Griffin III can make along with players like Alfred Morris in a make-or-break year.
According to Rick Snider of the Washington Post, Morris is entering a make-or-break season as he prepares to play out the final year of his contract. The running back did not get offered any type of contract deal this offseason as he enters the last year in his rookie deal and now must fight to earn the extension with the Redskins. Morris jumped on the map his rookie season with 1,613 rushing yards, but has suffered a decline in the two years following. Now with rookie Matt Jones chasing his tail, Morris is guaranteed nothing. Jones is making it clear he wants the starting job.
"I could care less, honestly," Jones said, via CSN Washington. "I approach every year the same. I'm a running back so I'll be running the ball, blocking, catching it. I don't even think about next year. I know I'll get that question a lot and I kind of dread it this year but it is what it is. I'm keeping things like I did them my first, second, third years. That's the same way I approach this fourth year."
Griffin is prepared to lean heavily on the run game this season. The quarterback had his fifth-year option picked up by the Redskins, but that in no way secures his future moving forward. Instead the quarterback must prove that he can improve and be an elite starter if Washington is going to keep him around. According to Griffin he is prepared to do anything and everything he is asked to do.
"I can tell you know whatever Jay wants to run, that's what we're going to run," Griffin said, via ESPN.com." And that's what we'll be successful at. I've bought in, the guys have bought in." "You can't worry about what other people say. That's not who you play for. You play for your teammates, your coaches and your city. So that's all I've been focused on. All I can do is, do what I can do to be the best player for this team and help this team win. So that's my focus and it's nothing else."
