Washington Redskins Rumors and News: Bashaud Breeland Suffers Knee Injury, Sidelined In Training Camp?

Aug 03, 2015 02:02 PM EDT

Starting cornerback Bashaud Breeland has been injured in training camp. Breeland made headlines earlier this offseason for his suspension however now it appears the wide receiver has more pressing issues. Breeland sprained his MCL in his right knee during Fridays practice.

The recovery time for a sprained MCL is about a month but could take longer. With the suspension Breeland looks to miss a considerable amount of time which should be good for his rehabilitation. The injury took place when Breeland slipped while he was covering wide receiver Quinton Dunbar as he ran through his route progression.

Breeland earned the starting job last year and has been a very effective cornerback for the Redskins; this injury however sets his development back. Breeland had a similar injury last year and reinjuring it could be a sign of some wear and tear on the sophomore's knee.

While in camp and preseason Breeland's snaps will go to Justin Rogers and rookies Tevin Mitchel and Kyshoen Jarrett. These guys will look to make a name for themselves and find their way onto the first string. Breeland can recover and sit through his suspension at the same time however, if this injury is worse than recently feared and the Redskins put him on injured reserve he would have to wait until he was taken off to serve the suspension.
