ALCS Game 2 Results Tigers vs. Yankees: Sanchez Powers Detroit to 2-0 Series Lead

Oct 14, 2012 07:36 PM EDT

The Detroit Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the ALCS as they defeated the New York Yankees 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Avisail Garcia, Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young combined for the offense in Game 2 off a Yankee pitching staff that was stingy today.

Hiroki Kuroda was throwing a no-hitter up until the fifth inning. Kuroda went 7.2 innings striking out 11 and giving up three earned runs.

However, on this night, he was outdueled by Anibal Sanchez who went seven innings allowing three hits, walking three and striking out seven.

The first run of the game came in the seventh inning on a groundball of the bat of Young. Then the Tigers caught a break in the top of the eighth when Omar Infante was called safe when he was clearly tagged out by Cano.

Joe Girardi was thrown out of the game.

Garcial singled him in and then Cabrera singled in Austin Jackson.

The Tigers took care of the opportunities they were given and now they have the advantage.

For the Yankees, things are getting worse and worse. Derek Jeter is out for the season and their offense is still struggling.

The worst part, Justin Verlander takes the mound in Game 3 as the series will now go to Detroit.

Phil Hughes will take the mound for the Yankees.

Game 3 is on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
