The NY Giants are looking for Odell Beckham, Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle to take the field together healthy this season and in training camp the WRs have looked good and this comes as lineman Ereck Flowers is dealing with an injury and has been replaced by Justin Pugh, while New York could consider signing Jake Long for depth up front.
The Giants are coming into the season after a tough 2014 and after taking Flowers with a top 10 pick, the team is expecting improvement. According to ESPN.com, Flowers is dealing with a hip issue and he is reportedly "day to day" with the injury. The Giants took Flowers in the draft and they expect him to contribute right away. The team has Will Beatty injured and that has slotted the rookie into the starting tackle position.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News, head coach Tom Coughlin commented on the injury and said that he hopes Flowers will be out for a "short amount of time." The Giants have Justin Pugh looking to stay comfortable in his spot on the line, but now he may have to move over if Flowers is injured for a long period of time. Flowers has been lining up at tackle for most of the offseason with Beatty injured and if he misses time, the team could very thin across the offensive line. The Giants need Geoff Schwartz to stay healthy and losing Flowers for any period of time could be tough.
The Giants had an active practice following the injury to Flowers, as Justin Pugh and Damontre Moore got into a bit of a scuffle while going up against each other. The Giants want Pugh to be at his natural spot and that could help him be more consistent. Pugh has been up and down during the first couple years of his career and the Giants are hoping that he takes a step forward this season. The team has a day off scheduled for Tuesday and they will have a fully padded workout coming next.
The Giants reportedly have had interest in Jake Long and NFL.com reported that Long visited with the Giants last week. The team needs help on the line and Long also visited with the Broncos, but reports have Denver "passing" on signing Long, according to Jason Cole at Bleacher Report. Adding Long would give some depth for the Giants and would add some experience to the line.
The Giants have not had JPP in camp, but the NY Daily News reports that the two sides have talked and that things could be worked out after camp once JPP can pass a physical. Some possibilities have been raised about what the Giants could do regarding Pierre-Paul, including pulling the franchise tender, but that does not look likely. The Giants have had Cruz and Beckham on the field this summer and both have looked good despite coming back from injuries. Beckham has a sore hammy, while Cruz is coming back from serious knee surgery.
