NFL News: Jerry Jones Reacts To Dez Bryant, Tyler Patmon Fight In Training Camp In California

Aug 05, 2015 12:52 PM EDT

There have been a lot of training camp fights recently and that is a sign that football is almost here. Some owners and coaches feel differently about the fights that go on in practice, it appears Jerry Jones is one of those owners. Jones talked of the Dez Bryant/Tyler Patmon scuffle as reminiscent of Deion Sanders and Michael Irving. Jones stated

"That's good stuff, that's training camp. Now that's not new. That's been happening at our training camps for years and years and years. It is a throwback to the years when you saw Michael Irvin out here, Deion and those guys."

Jones is right about one thing, it is not new. Aggression and training camp go together like ice cream and apple pie, the overreaction is something new because let's face it there weren't a million cameras watching every players every move in the 90's. If a fight happened in training camp unless it just so happened to be filmed with a large, heavy camera it just was not aired on television. Now teams aren't only worried about opponents watching their practices through social media (as fans take videos and pictures) but they are worried about how their internal disputes will be interpreted. Most of the hundred articles that popped up about Dez and the fight neglected the most important part, that Bryant and Patmon shook hands and hugged it out after words, even taking to social media to apologize.

It is pretty obvious that teammates would not intentionally try to severly hurt one another however training camp is heating up just like the summer time, as temperatures rise players have to fight. Patmon is fighting to stay on the roster as a 3rd- 4th string defensive back and Dez is the biggest wide receiver on the field both in size and in talent, Patmon was looking to send a message that he could go up against the best and give it his all. There is a time and a place for teammates to get into scraps, this was one of those times and it was definitely the right place.
